by Don Phillips This series of articles has been written by Don Phillips of Marco Island, Florida. Before retiring in 1989, Don was Manager of Technology Planning for the Hamilton Standard division of United Technologies Corporation in Connecticut. Throughout his career, Don was also very active in the arena of fly fishing. He developed the world's first boron fly rods in the 1970's and sold over 700 rods under the FlyCraft label, he authored many articles for fly fishing magazines and did consulting work for several rod manufacturers on fly rod design and advanced composite materials.
